Pai,Akira and Sarah are pretty popular on equal footing they probably had a choice of three characters so they went with them.

Yeah, I expect them to be popular. It wouldn't make much sense to me if they went with randoms. Especially since they all were in the anime, Jacky was too tho so...

Sarah,Pai,Akira,Jacky, Jefferey,Kage,Lau and Dural are all the original faces of VF so they had to pick characters that represented the series.

I wouldn't call Pai popular, she's just an established face... More people will recognise her than other VF girls (apart from Sarah, they'd be on the same level or Sarah would be more popular)

It's like Aries said, they went with VF1 characters. And of course its DOA, so they'll favour the girls. And then its VF so Akira has to get in as the poster boy.
