Tekken 3? they got away with that cause Jin was Kazuya's son and was basically a Jun and Kazuya hybrid in moveset.
They removed the series icon but there was at least a part of him still left in the game.
ME literally revolves around Shepard and his adventures if they want to put in someone new it needs to be a son/daughter set years in the future.

Mass Effect Andromeda will be available in US March 21st and in EU beginning the 23rd.

I'm not so pressed about the storyline the story is about twins Scott and Sara Ryder set in the future. You can play as one or the other and you can change their names. Makes sense for a new gen game to be about a new gen phone
