That's what I did. And I sold my old one back to the game store without them knowing it ever broke.

If you get it fix, it's likely to break again relatively soon. It can become a pain in the ass too.

No, they never fix it for free. Mines wouldn't be free anyway since the warranty is up. And normally their "fix" is a replacement of the same model so i'd still lose my data.

And even if i wasnt interested in the data, Sony takes over a month with it and costs probably the price of a game cheaper than actually buying a new one. Going local for the repair is much cheaper, faster, u'll keep ur data and if u go for the re-ball repair, better than what Sony can ever do because they rn't allowed to use lead solder even though its better at resistin heat than they stuff they use, which is the problem.

If i get it fixed by the place i am thinkin about then i get a year's warranty, so if it does break again in that time it'll be fixed for free. I can get a new ps3 but i don't wanna buy one... i'd rather keep saving it

Oh, well you're lucky then. My local place only gave me a couple months warranty because they were almost certain it would break again, and recommend that I trade it in for a slim.

I had luck on my side too though in that my sister's then husband hooked me up with a slim for only $150 with a game, two controllers AND a headset. In fact, I bought the slim before getting rid of my old PS3. And I managed to sell my old one for almost 200 at the game store with the extra headset I had, and surprisingly, the two old Sixaxis controllers I had(the ones that don't vibrate). But they gave me currency that I could only use for that store if I wanted that much for it.
